I’ve been head down and full tilt at work for the last two weeks, which is part of the reason for the silence on the blog. I’ve been learning how to do knitting pattern design and I’ve been spending a lot of time with my spinning wheel. I’m also doing a knitting mastery program that involves knitting 16 samples of my work. (Ten to go….) So, the hands have been far too busy to type. But it’s a good busy.
I’m ready to share my first pattern with the world and I’m hoping that it’ll be something that I look back on with huge amounts of embarassment. It’s simple – a sock pattern with a simple lace motif. There’s nothing even remotely revolutionary about it, but it was a really great exercise in learning to write gauge, size and apply some of the lessons from my Math for Knitters class at the Vogue Knitting conference back in February. The toughest part for me was actually the photography – trying to get pictures of your own feet is pretty much impossible, so I had to enlist help. It’s a free pattern, since I can’t even imagine trying to charge for something that was a learning exercise, but I’m still pleased enough to want to share it with the world.
It’s not much, but it’s mine.
