About

I must credit a folk group called Eddie from Ohio for the title of this blog. They’re a favorite band and I was particularly taken with a song of theirs called Fly, which is the story of a young boy that doesn’t quite fit in and doesn’t think he’s very special, but he doesn’t let that stop his dreams. I admire this boy. I hope he’s not just a work of fiction.

As for me, I’m a native Marylander, who uprooted her life and moved to the Big Apple in September of 2003. I haven’t completely recovered, although I now understand the big deal about the pizza and the bagels. I live with my partner and my teenage brother in a small town by the beach. We spend our days on boats, trains, planes and giant automobiles when we’re not found grilling in the backyard. Which is to say that we now live in Long Island, after years in the 5 Boros. But we commute into Manhattan, so we’re not hopeless.

This blog is the story of my life; little snippets of what it’s like to be an outsider in an insider world, some comments about the worlds of geekery, stitchery, food, politics, art, film, etc., etc.
