Jesse Jackson and Obama

September 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday, Jesse Jackson was outside the Stock Market, drumming up support against the passing of the bailout bill that was in the House of Representatives. I know this because my office is on the same block.
I realized that I didn’t know a great deal about him - most of his really famous activism predates [...]

Happy New Year!

September 30th, 2008 · No Comments

For those of you celebrating Rosh Hashana - happy new year to you.
It seems a particularly good time to have a new year, being as how yesterday the stock market dropped more points than it ever has in stock market history and some of my friends started deal with changes and endings.
My last year was [...]

Waffle Palin

September 29th, 2008 · No Comments

I’m renaming Sarah Palin to Sarah Ignorant Waffle Palin.
If you haven’t read the Palin-Couric interview, you should, if only to understand the type of ignorance that the Republicans think is totally cool to bring to one of the most influential positions on the planet.
She could be our President.  I’m not usually one to tell [...]

September 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Last night, the lovely Maya and myself watched Emma, adding to my list of Jane Austen movies that I adore.
Austen gets discredited as a romance writer and a generator of the “chick flick” (an awful phrase that writes off movies about women as unimportant). I love her because she writes about young people who [...]

Learning Games

September 24th, 2008 · No Comments

I spent a little bit of time yesterday customizing my new iPhone - and I managed to discover a free ebook reader, with books that you can download wirelessly.  It was nice knowing all of you, but I am now knee deep in public domain novels and will only be reachable in a couple of [...]

Painting and peas

September 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

The weekend sum-up:
1. Get home, go to local hardware store, buy more paint stuff. Make subpar dinner with roasted potatoes and peas.
2. Ignore exhaustion, spend hours taping up room, hallway and bathroom in preparation for painting.
3. Sleep for five hours, wake up with Looming Responsibilities hanging over me.
4. Paint, paint, paint.
5. Discover body is in [...]

iPhonemania

September 19th, 2008 · No Comments

After a very long struggle with AT&T, I have finally received my iPhone 3G. I flat out love the iPhone and have had one since not long after the first drop in price for them. Combining my phone with my MP3 player makes a ridiculous amount of sense for me. It was [...]
