I would like to have (and be able to play) a 5 string banjo. I would even like it if I were more proficient on my guitar IE: able to play more than a few chords.

My mother was never a seamstress or a knitter but one day someone taught her to knit with mohair/large needles and very soon I was wearing long, holey, lopsided cardigans. This brings a smile to my face these days and I wish I’d have kept one of them but I had no appreciation for them at the time. I’m glad to hear your love of these textiles comes from your Mum.

You could just come to Aberdeen where not a soul mentioned St Patrick’s Day to me! Then again, there is not much in the way of a celebration for St Andrew’s Day in November either. Perhaps it is down to timing – these are the bitterly cold hibernation months! Well done with the soda farls. Did you serve them with lashings of salted butter and black currant jam?
